A New Beginning

As the name suggests, I am embarking on something new, or rather, doing something again with a new attitude. Many of you know me as the funny, quirky, can't stop "singing" kind of guy. Well, I hope i din make you feel tortured by my ceaseless rambling of pop songs which you love so dear.

The love for singing was what made me sign up for the emerge talentime auditions. Well, if you wanna know what happened, I sang a song by Ronan Keating titled "when you say nothing at all." Its a nice, smooth-going, country-side kind of song. This song is also the theme song of Notting Hill, starring Hugh Grant and Sandra Bullock(i think).

I feel that i did not really did the job well. (Ok, you got me). I thought it felt weird after the first line and things kind of got a bit haywire after that. Basically, I lost control and just blasted my voice to the mike. After that, when a fellow CG member had her auditions, she totally impressed the crowd with her performance. Her song reminded me a lot of what i have been learning in my music school and revealed to me how much room there was for improvement. Pitching, rythm, stability of high notes, voice sustain; all these are some very basic yet important necessites in singing.

To be perfectly honest, I feel that i am still quite inadequte. I am not looking down on myself but i believe in order to progress, i must be clear-headed to know where i stand. My goal is to sing as well as my vocal teacher. He is able to sing all genres of songs with ease and is able to "describe" the songs as if he were writing them.

But Jay Lim(the 3rd guy in last SG idol if you rem) is Jay Lim. I am me. We each have distinct voices and perspectives in life. I am reaching forward to him as a goal, but i will allow my voice to develop to its peak. On the mental level, I want to learn as much as i can, and i will constantly humble myself. I seek discipline and growth in my vocal talent(meaning being able to speak).

Singing is not science. Its an expression. The story, emotions, tone and rythm brings you to a world beyond. I desire to perform a wide variety of songs with ease and i really hope that the friends around me can support me and run with me towards my dream.
